We enable artists,
we don't replace them.
In a world racing toward automation, we chose a different path. We listen to your story. Human hands give it form. The result is something no machine could ever create alone.
The problem
How art works today vs. how it should
The world of handmade art is broken. Artisans are invisible, underpaid, and disconnected from the people who value their work most.
Today's world
Artisans earn 10-20% of the sale price; middlemen take the rest
Mass-produced "handmade" items flood the market with no story behind them
Generational art skills are dying as young artisans can't make a living
Customers buy generic decor that means nothing to them
Artists and buyers never connect, separated by language, geography, and platforms
Fast retail creates enormous waste with disposable goods
With Hand Told
Artisans receive 50-75% proceeds from every sale: fair pay, real dignity
Every piece is one-of-a-kind, born from a real human story
Generational skills become sustainable careers, not dying crafts
Customers own something deeply personal: a memory made tangible
We bridge the gap, translating stories across languages and cultures
Handmade means lasting, reducing waste in a disposable world
The Journey
From your story to your hands, in five steps
Every piece begins with a profile, continues as a conversation, and ends as a one-of-a-kind creation made by human hands.
Step 01. Your Profile
Tell us who you are
Before the conversation begins, you set up a profile: your name, where you're from, the art forms you love, and any commission idea you already have in mind.
This isn't a requirement, it's a shortcut. The more we know about you upfront, the more personal and meaningful the interview becomes from the very first question.

Step 02. The Conversation
We listen. Deeply.
We interview you through a natural conversation, not a form. Tell your own story, or commission a piece for someone you love. Choose quick (15 min), standard (30 min), or deep (1 hour+) sessions.
We ask about memories, the people who shaped you, places that feel like home, colours and textures you love. Together we build a rich portrait of who you are: your personality, your emotions, the turning points of your life.

Step 03. Your Inspiration
Show us what moves you
Upload photos that capture your aesthetic: a sunset, a family heirloom, a favourite room, a piece of art you love. We read each image for colours, moods, cultural elements, and emotional resonance.
These visual themes enrich the brief that goes to your artisan, ensuring the final piece doesn't just tell your story; it looks and feels like you.

Step 04. The Discovery
Three art forms, three traditions
We look at everything (your interview, your personality profile, your inspiration photos) and suggest three art forms from different artisan traditions around the world. Vietnamese ceramics. Moroccan metalwork. Indian marble carving.
You choose the direction that resonates most, review the structured brief, and approve what gets shared with an artisan. You're always in control.

Step 05. The Arrival
Hold your story, tell it forever
A skilled artisan, often from underserved communities where talent is abundant but access to global markets is scarce, receives your brief translated into their language, containing only the creative direction you approved. They receive 50-75% of the sale, not the industry standard 10-20%.
You receive regular updates as your piece takes shape. When it arrives, you hold something that only kings could commission a century ago: a handmade piece born from your life story.

The difference
Numbers that matter
50-75%
of every sale goes directly to the artisan
Industry average: 10-20%
100%
of your personal data stays on your device
Most apps: uploaded to cloud servers
1 of 1
every piece is truly unique, made from your story
Mass retail: millions of identical copies
Privacy first
Your story is yours. Period.
We built Hand Told with a focus on privacy: your most personal data stays private and isn't shared or accessible by anyone.
Privacy-first by design
When you share your story with us, everything is private: your memories, your personality profile, your emotional themes.
When a brief is sent to an artisan, it contains only the creative direction, emotional themes, color palettes, and artistic preferences you've approved. Never your name, your chat info, or anything you haven't explicitly signed off on.
Our vision
Why we built this
“A hundred years ago, only royalty could commission a personal piece of art. Today, fast retail has made everything disposable and meaningless. We believe there's a world where everyonecan own something made just for them, and the person who made it can thrive doing what they love.”
